Who We Are

Professional Barbers Through the Years

The first Hudson’s Barber Shop opened in Savannah, Georgia in 1946. The founder was entrepreneur, Hezekiah Hudson Sr. His goal was to create a business where he could work with his children daily. This was inspired by an example he had seen while working for a drugstore.  An artist by nature, he now had to venture into providing something that people needed.  His choice of occupation was directed by the advice of his late father, “If you provide something that people need, you will never go hungry.” Though his father died when he was 15 years old, he left him two things: a store and a pair of hair clippers. Both of these gifts would impact Hezekiah’s career decision.  Along with barbering in each barbershop he opened, there was set aside a space to sell snacks, medicinals, and other small items that customers or the community might need.

An underlining factor in this transition from employment to entrepreneurship was his wife of over 60 years and mother of their 4 sons and daughter, Mrs. Isabell Hudson. She pledged her support of his idea under one condition- if he could consistently equal the weekly income that he made at the drugstore, which was $18. Well, Hezekiah Hudson became a licensed Master Barber and never went back to work at the drugstore.  Many years and locations later, all his sons would become licensed Master Barbers and two have become Barber Instructors.  Five of his grandchildren and one great-grandchild have become licensed Master Barbers, and two apprentices. Mr. Hezekiah Hudson passed on April 13, 2001, but the family and community-centered business idea he created lives on at Hudson’s Barber Stylon, Inc.
The main practitioners now are James C. Hudson Sr. & Jr.
Apprentices Matthew & Joseph Hudson return when their military and college schedule allows.
